November already?? That means it’s time to think about the holidays! At The Sewing Studio, not only do we love thinking about what we’re going to make (holiday dresses, winter coats, personalized stockings and gifts!), we also love thinking about what we’re going to give. This year we’ve decided to take part in Operation Christmas Child, an organization that sends holiday gifts to deserving children around the world. Please help us give big! (And when you come by the studio, bring an old T-shirt to donate for our second charity mission in Ghana, West Africa.)

Six stylish shoes to know
  1. Stilettos:
Named after the stiletto dagger, stilettos are shoes or boots that have a very long, thin heel.
  2. Kitten heels:
A mini stiletto (they’re 5 cm or less), kitten heels are great for days when you’ll be on your feet for hours.
  3. Wedges:
High heeled shoes where the heel is not defined. It looks like you’re standing on a door-stopper, but in a much more glamourous way!
  4. Mules
Mules are close-toed and don’t have a back. Marilyn Monroe helped to popularize this shoe.
  5. Mary Janes:
A lower heel with rounded toe, a Mary Jane is recognized by its horizontal strap, found either at the top of the foot or at the instep.
  6. Platforms:
High heels that also have a thick sole under the ball of your foot are referred to as platform shoes. Made of cork, plastic, wood or rubber, platforms were worn in Europe in the 18th century to help fashion-conscious women stay above the mess on the city streets.
