In the studio with…
Jason Meyers
Canada’s newest design star
By Afiya Francisco
Jason Meyers has certainly come a long way from his days as a student at Toronto’s International Academy of Design and Technology. For someone who didn’t know how to thread a sewing machine when he started, he proved to be a quick study when soon after graduation he was touted as a “designer to watch for” by Fashion Television.
Since FT’s prophetic claim, Meyers’ recognition has skyrocketed. He was the popular runner-up in the second season of the hit series Project Runway Canada, which Meyers credits as putting his career and design skills “on steroids”. The result being a packed house of a 1000-plus eager spectators at his Spring/Summer 2010 collection during LG Fashion Week in Toronto. The consensus: Meyers is no second fiddle. Jasonmeyers.net
Sewing tip: If you want to study fashion, you should have some basic sewing skills to start. Sign up for a sewing class or pick up a beginner book and borrow a friend’s machine.
