Any Beach, Anywhere

After a few months of snow, rain, and slush-not to mention salt stains that have ruined too many pairs of shoes-there’s nothing better than escaping the Canadian winter for a resort vacation. Sun, sand, and surf? Yes, please. Of course, part of the fun of getting ready for a sunny holiday is packing: ditch the Canada Goose parka for a silk sarong, the shearling-trimmed boots for wedge sandals, and the velvet frock for a flowy number. Now is the time to forgo your standard brown, navy and black palette and opt instead for rainbow brights, instead.

The must-have accessory of fall 2010, Celine’s classic box shoulder bag has been redone in neon yellow python, perfect a resort vacation, while a tote with oversized posies by Lanvin makes an ideal beach buddy-especially when stuffed with SPF, a salacious read, and statement sunglasses. Bold accents such as the raffia-covered Dillon wedge platforms by Michael Kors, in royal blue or grass green, or Charlotte Olympia’s signature platform pumps covered in cutouts of fruit will add punch to your holiday wardrobe.

If more muted tones are your idea of cool cruisewear, opt for Alexander Wang’s resort 2011 collection, which features a palette of mostly maroon, black, grey, and white. For the more colour-inclined, Oscar de la Renta’s ultra-vibrant showing included bold florals, colour-blocking, and cocktail dresses that wouldn’t be out of place at a swanky resort in the Maldives. Similarly, Marc Jacobs’ resort collection for Louis Vuitton is a true style trip: a pink-and-green chevron-and-floral dress is boardwalk-ready, while an emerald floral, tiered strapless number is the perfect number for dinner in Seychelles. Go on, get dressed-then get out into the sun.
