Make Your Own Arm Warmers
Ivana Musura | Date posted: February 4th, 2013
Sew a pair of arm warmers out of a knitted sweater similar to the ones in Donna Karan’s The Cashmere Collection (see photo above). Wear them during wintertime or in your next dance class. You can also pull these on while jogging or make them as a gift for a friend.
Supplies:
1 knitted sweater
Seam ripper
Scissors
Pins
Marking pencil
Thread
Step 1: Remove the sleeves from the armhole using a seam ripper.
Step 2: Even out the top edges by cutting off the sleeve caps and making the edge square.
Step 3: Finish the edges of the sleeves with a serger or zigzag stitch.Fold back ½” (1.27cm) seam allowance to the wrong side of the fabric and topstitch.
Step 4: Optional thumb slot: Mark 2” (5.08cm) from the hem of each sleeve cuff. This will be the beginning of the thumb slot. Sew a 2” (5.08cm) buttonhole from the edge of the original mark away from the cuff. Carefully stitch rip the buttonhole open and viola!
